Product details

Ian Hunter is the man who made Laproaig what it is today. He was an uncommon soul, with his own distinct manners and moods, not too unlike the whisky he gave to the world. Book 4 celebrates Ian Hunter’s establishing of the malting floors and his legacy as the Malt Master of Laphroaig. Ian secured the distillery’s lease in 1922, broke into America in the time of Prohibition, was the catalyst for a revolution in the use of American White Oak and is the reason why we are still among a handful of distilleries to maintain our own malting floors today. He put his heart and soul into ensuring Laphroaig was a whisky like no other. In Ian Hunter Book 4 Laphroaig pays tribute to Ian Hunter’s dedication to Laphroaig with a whisky every bit as rare and distinctive as he is. This 34-year-old single malt was carefully crafted from their own floor-malted barley and aged in the American White Oak casks Hunter was first to procure. Perhaps not for everyone, but for the discerning few, this will be a taste like no other.

Tasting notes

Pineapple and peach notes. A long, ashy finish.

A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO LAPHROAIG

This classic flavour of our 10 Year malt whisky is the inspiration for every expression in our repertoire. It’s best known for the iconic peaty thump we’re famous for. Every sip smothers your senses with our outstanding smoky flavor, followed by hints of seaweed and a long finish with surprising sweetness. Laphroaig 10 was created over 75 years ago by the maverick Ian Hunter to bottle the very nature of Islay. To this day, many of our friends at the distillery say it’s their favorite dram because it’s the embodiment of the island we call home. Laphroaig Sherry Oak combines the unmistakable flavor of our 10 Year Old with the sweet, aromatic additions from Oloroso sherry casks. Launched in 2021, it’s the newest expression in our range and has quickly become a firm favourite among our Friends. It’s a happy marriage between rich, full bodied flavour and notes of Manuka honey, bacon and maple syrup. A sweet and smoky dram that’ll take you away to Islay.
